Thanks to all our Zone 12 Volunteers! Now, get Ready for the Sebring 48 …

Category : News

Thanks for a great OktoberFast at Daytona!

Last weekend we had the best OktoberFast Daytona Club Race weekend ever! A big shout-out goes to all our Volunteers who helped us put on the big show – from the Committee Members and our annual “regulars,” to the first-time Volunteers – we couldn’t have done it without you, and we certainly hope you had a good time.

Most of our 11 Regions in Zone 12 were represented – in the drivers who participated; the individuals and groups who attended to have fun; and the Committee Members and Volunteers who helped organize and run the event. We had a record number of Volunteers, and you all pitched in to make things run smoothly for all our participants, whether DE drivers, racers, autocrossers, car show participants, track tourists, or any of our other guests. We couldn’t do any of our events without you, but we especially appreciate your participation in these large events. Sincerely, thank you very much!

And best of all, our Volunteers who helped with our Track Touring Laps collected $4,055 in donations for CureSMA – many thanks to our very generous drivers! And if you didn’t get a chance to get out to Daytona, please consider learning more about SMA and making an online donation if you have the ability to contribute.

48 Hours at Sebring is Coming Up, and We Want You to Be Part of the Action There Too!

Even though the holidays are just now upon us, it’s not too early to start thinking about February and helping out at our next big Volunteer event – the 48 Hours at Sebring Club Race, February 3-6, 2022. The 48 is the first race of the PCA Club Racing season, and racers from all over North America come down to visit us and enjoy our wonderful weather. It’s a lot of fun, and you’ll enjoy being there – and you’ll really enjoy being a Volunteer.

If you can help out, we’d love to have your support! It’s easy to register, but if you need any assistance, Volunteer Chair Paul Raben can answer any questions or help you through the process. Just email him at praben356@gmail.com.

To get started:

Here are some helpful hints, if this is the first time you’ve gone through this registration process:

  • During Sign Up, you’ll fill in the boxes that are highlighted in RED, including your shirt size
  • Once you select Continue at the bottom of the page, the following screen is where you’ll indicate what day(s), what position(s) and shift(s) you want to volunteer for at the event.
    • You’ll see the days with the available shifts
    • Next to each shift is a large box and a smaller box that both have the word “None” in them
    • As soon as you choose a shift, select the first box and all the positions will open up – now, you can choose your dream job(s); then select Continue
  • On the final screen, you’ll see your name at the top and also the role(s) you are signed up for
  • If it all looks good, select Confirm at the bottom of the page and you’re done! (And very much appreciated, by the 48 Hours Team!)

Thank you for volunteering! If you have any questions, please email Paul Raben @ praben356@gmail.com.

Have a great weekend – and welcome to November already! Start looking for emails from your local Region about any holiday or charity plans coming up soon.

Guest Info for our Zone 12 OktoberFast Club Race at Daytona (in only 2 weeks!)

Category : News

We hope to welcome you to Daytona in just a couple of weeks for our annual Zone 12 OktoberFast Club Race weekend! This map will help you make your way around the Daytona complex, and there will be signs posted all through the venue to point you in the right direction.

As always, there’s no fee to be our guest and no tickets needed. It’s easy to get in and around the track – just enter at Gate 40 (off Williamson Blvd.) and sign the waiver at the gate, then enter the tunnel into the speedway and follow the signs (or the attached map) to get to where you’re going!

This year we’ll have all the on-track excitement we’re used to, plus more fun for our guests than ever before. Check the full schedule for all the events.

On Saturday, there are a few events of interest to our guests (FYI, Track Touring will be held at about the same time on Sunday too):

  • Autocross will begin at 8:30 and go on through the afternoon, ending around 3:30
  • Shine ‘N Show Car Show will be at 10:30 on Saturday, where you can show off your pretty Porsche – and get a cool OktoberFast T-shirt just for being in the show! It will be located in the Fan Zone, and you’ll register and pay once you get there ($30 entry fee). If you plan to enter your car, be there by 9:30 a.m. to get registered and parked. No fee to just attend.
  • Charity Track Touring will start around 11:20 ($20 donation, or more if you can!). Plan to be in line by 11:00, so you’ll have time to register and attend the drivers’ meeting before taking your car/truck (any make) on the track. And remember – these are fun laps at low speed, just so you can say you “drove Daytona.” (If you want to drive fast someday, just do what it takes to become a solo DE driver or a racer at Daytona!)This year our track tours will raise money for a worthy new charity: Cure SMA, which is dedicated to the treatment and care of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). SMA is the number one genetic cause of death for infants, and it takes away a person’s ability to walk, eat, or breathe.

Several of our Regions will be planning a drive over to Daytona for the car show, autocross, track touring or just to watch the races – check with your leadership team to find out if your Region will be having a group event. Plan to come to Daytona and enjoy all that the weekend has to offer!

And there’s still time to register for the driving events. Visit ClubRegistration.net and search “Daytona” to register:

We’ll have the Daytona International Speedway complex as our weekend playground – so, plan to come out October 22-24 and have fun with us!

Hope to see you there in just 2 weeks!

Zone 12 News: Zonefest had to be canceled; Daytona Autocross registration is now open

Category : News

Third Time is the Charm: Zonefest has been Postponed until Memorial Day Weekend 2022 (May 27-29)

After closely monitoring the Melbourne area’s recent spike in COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations, the Zonefest Committee decided that it was safest to cancel our Zonefest event over Labor Day Weekend this year. But make sure to put Zonefest 2022 on your calendar for Memorial Day weekend.

Fortunately, Porsche Melbourne and the American Muscle Car Museum have been very supportive all along and agreed to sponsor/host this event again next year. We had to postpone last year’s Zonefest to this year – so now, the third time must be the charm!

Anyone who was registered for this year’s event and had already paid will receive full refunds through Club Registration. Please remember to cancel your hotel reservations at the Hilton (or elsewhere), as these will not automatically cancel. In addition, if you registered for this year’s event, you’ll receive a special reminder when 2022 registration opens early next year. On behalf of Space Coast Region, we look forward to seeing you all in May for Zonefest 2022!

Join in on the PCA Fun all year, wherever you are

Remember that as a member of PCA, please feel free to join in on other Regions events when you’re in the area. Unless a Region has a reason to limit attendance to only its members (such as for anniversary events), most events are open to all – and you’ll always feel welcomed at any Region’s event! This past weekend, we had members from 7 of our Regions in attendance at the Gold Coast Region’s Escape to the Cape event. It was a beautiful venue, with lots of happy PCA members enjoying time with their friends and families.

And also remember that you can be a member of more than one Region (whether here in Zone 12, “back home” up north, or anywhere else in PCA). Just call the National Office at 410-381-0911, and they’ll be able to help get you set up. And note that if you happen to live in the area of our newest Region, Gulfstream, and you’d like to become a member of that Region while remaining in Gold Coast too, just call the National Office. That way, you’ll receive all the communications from those particular Regions, and you’ll stay up to date about their events.

And the final good news is … registration for the OktoberFast Autocross is now open!

Just go to ClubRegistration.net to sign up for the Autocross on the infield Kart track at Daytona. Enjoy watching the Club Race and Driver’s Ed on the high banks while you’re having fun at the Autocross!
https://clubregistration.net/events/signUp.cfm/event/11788

The AX will be Saturday, October 23, and the cost is only $50 if you pre-register online. If you wait until the day of the event and register on-site, the cost will be $60. So, save yourself money and effort and register for the AX in ClubReg today! And don’t worry about payment now, because all registrants will pay at the event.

Stay safe and healthy, and I hope to see you at an event soon!

Zone 12 – Upcoming Events, from late summer into fall!

Category : News

It’s hard to believe we’re almost halfway through August, but this year has flown by even faster than last year. I hope you’ve all had opportunities to enjoy the summer, have fun with your friends and family, and that you and your families are healthy and happy.

We have a lot of great events in late summer, into early fall – including Zonefest, hosted by Space Coast, coming up in just a few weeks. And our Zone 12 Club Race and Solo DE at Daytona in October, including nighttime DE sessions this year (see additional details below)!

As with all of our events, the health and safety of our participants is our top priority. We’re constantly monitoring the situation in each area of our Zone. So, if things change, we’ll adjust and adapt accordingly. Perhaps some events will need to be held outside or possibly canceled entirely if the situation calls for that. But hopefully, things will get better, not worse.

With that in mind, here are some great events currently scheduled, all around the Zone.

Zone 12 News – Zone 12’s PCA National Award Winners recognized at Parade!

Category : News

At this year’s Parade in lovely French Lick, Indiana, some of the most prestigious awards went to Regions in Zone 12! These were all very well-deserved recognition for a lot of hard work and commitment, not only to our Regions’ membership but also to the communities we support. To win these awards at any Parade is a big achievement, but to be recognized during one of the most challenging years we’ve ever experienced is an even bigger accomplishment.

Congratulations to all our Zone 12 participants and winners at Parade, and in particular, our major award winners!

Everglades Region won the 2020 Public Service Award

Congratulations, Everglades, for this well-deserved recognition! This is a major honor, recognizing the Region that best represents the giving spirit of PCA – one winner out of 146 Regions across the US and Canada. The Everglades leadership team, led by President John Petracco, and Everglades members gave back tremendously to the charities and communities in the Region and performed public service all across Florida, all through the year.

In 2017, Everglades started the tradition of the Porsche Parade of Presents to Golisano Children’s Hospital in Fort Myers, with John and Val Petracco’s inspiration and leadership. During 2018 and 2019, the event grew larger and eight other Regions in Zone 12 also had their own similar events, on the same charity weekend in December. By December 2020, in the midst of the covid-19 pandemic, the Everglades Region Parade of Presents featured 153 cars, including more than 100 Porsches. The Region members delivered toys and more than $200,000 in donations to Golisano and the Lee Health Foundation.

Along with a beautiful trophy that was presented at Parade, Everglades will receive $1,500 to help in their ongoing public service efforts.

Please read about Everglades’ public service efforts all throughout 2020: Everglades Region’s Public Service

They were also recognized earlier this year, as Members Making a Difference.

Gold Coast Region was also recognized as the 3rd place recipient in the Public Service category, and the Region will receive $500 to help with their charitable efforts. Great job, Gold Coast! Please read Gold Coast President Peter Olliviere’s submission for the Public Service award: Gold Coast Region’s Public Service

Puerto Rico Region won the Actual Growth Membership Award

The Region leadership worked hard to keep the membership engaged and active, and they grew from 359 primary members in December 2019 to 527 members in Dec 2020 – a 168-member increase, during a very challenging year. Congratulations to Puerto Rico President, Javier Cordero, and all the Region leaders!

Website and Newsletter Awards

Zone 12 also had a few Regions and members recognized for their hard work and contributions to our websites and newsletters.

  • Our newest Region was recognized: Gulfstream’s website earned 2nd Place in Class I – great job, Webmaster Dale Brundige!
  • Sonnenschein Region’s website was 2nd in Class II – recognizing wonderful, ongoing work by Webmaster Keith Boring!
  • And in the Newsletter contest, Suncoast Region’s “Porsche Profile” was 3rd place in Class VI – thanks to a lot of hard work and dedication by Editor Norm Sippel, and the Suncoast members who provide interesting articles all year long!

Please check out all the Parade results.

Next year’s Parade will be in the beautiful Poconos, at the Kalahari Resort, June 12-18, 2022. Registration will open in early 2022, so keep an eye out for Parade info early next year.

Learn more about the adventure in the Poconos: https://www.poconomountains.com/

And one last reminder to register for our “Mini-Parade,” Zonefest, held Labor Day weekend in Melbourne. The roster is filling up fast, and it may max out soon. Registration closes August 16 or sooner, if it reaches capacity. Register now for Zonefest.

Hope to see you there!

As we enter the second half of 2021, most of our Regions will be planning upcoming charity events. If you have interesting ideas or would like to help out with your Region’s charity plans, please reach out to your President or other Region Leadership. We can all be members making a difference!

Again, congrats to all our Parade winners and contributors!
