Zone 12 Fall Instructor Schools/DEs

Category : News

In Zone 12, we’re very lucky to have several active DE programs at various tracks, all throughout the year. A lot of our DE drivers and Instructors support all the DEs, whether it’s their home Region’s or another Region’s event.

But once you’re an advanced solo driver and have a desire to become an Instructor, you don’t have as many chances to attend Instructor School. Are you a solo driver, ready and eager to become a DE Instructor? If so, please plan to attend one of our fall Instructor Schools/DEs.

October: Florida Citrus at Roebling

Friday, October 12: Instructor School at Roebling Road Raceway near Savannah, followed by the weekend DE, October 13-14.

Register now on ClubRegistration.net.

Instructor School: https://clubregistration.net/events/signUp.cfm/event/9192

DE: https://clubregistration.net/events/signUp.cfm/event/9193

Florida Citrus Region has a 20-plus-year history of training DE Instructors for PCA and recently received certification from Motorsport Safety Foundation (MSF) to train Level 2 Instructors. As we know, PCA has long been a leader in training DE Instructors. More recently, MSF developed a national program to provide high-quality, standardized, and consistent training to DE Instructors throughout the country. The Citrus Instructor school combines both programs to grant dual credentials to successful candidates.

Need more info? Please contact Bert Del Villano: bertdelvillano997@gmail.com

November: Suncoast at Sebring

Friday and Saturday, November 16-17: Instructor training, and continuing education for advanced drivers. Open to any solo qualified drivers and current PCA Instructors.

Solo Drivers (new solo and advanced): In addition to a lot of track time, this is a great opportunity for you to join the track walk, receive additional advanced instruction, and learn more about Sebring than can be accomplished in a typical DE weekend. If you’ve been thinking about it, maybe you’re ready to become an Instructor?

Sunday, Nov. 18: Regular DE – open to all PCA member drivers, from novice students to Instructors.

Registration opens on ClubReg on 10/5.

Need more info? Please contact Denise Remus: suncoastderegistrar@gmail.com

Zone 12 Happenings, and … Parade 2019!

Category : News

Hope everyone has enjoyed a fun and eventful summer so far. Of course, our summer will last a bit longer, usually prolonging until the week before Christmas. But “officially” at least, we’ll start moving toward fall soon, and there are many great events to look forward to in Zone 12, all the way into next year.

Speaking of next year … Even though we just had Parade, let’s get ready to focus on Parade 2019! In case you haven’t heard, we’re lucky enough to be the Host Zone for Parade 2019 – with Parade being held right here in Boca Raton (July 21-28, 2019). It will be at the Boca Raton Resort and Club, a Waldorf-Astoria … and the room rates will be very reasonable for this luxurious resort (well under $200/night). Those of us in the Sunshine State don’t usually get these low rates, even as Florida residents. So, plan your 2019 summer vacation to be at Parade in Boca.

This year at Parade, there were 900 registrants (900 Porsches!) and almost 1,800 attendees. It took 40 year-round Volunteers and more than 700 on-site Volunteers to make it happen. Next year, it’s our time to shine!

For 2019, we’ll need 100s of Volunteers as well, from all over the country. The Parade Committee will start planning Tours, Rallies, and all the other events soon, and they’ll be seeking our local expertise and help. So if you’re interested in helping on the front end, please let your Region Leadership know now.

Parade 2019 – July 21-28.  At the Boca Raton Resort and Club.

Parade is our chance to not only win individual event awards, but also be recognized at the National level. At this year’s Parade at Tan-Tar-A Resort, Zone 12 had several individual event winners. But two of our Regions were honored with very special awards.

North Florida Region won the 2018 Public Service Award. This is a National Award, given in recognition of outstanding service to the Region’s community and charities. It was very well-deserved and an especially heartwarming legacy, since the club lost its beloved leader Bob Wilson earlier this year. Bob was a caring, compassionate person and as President, he and his team lead NFL with heart and soul – doing well by doing good. NFL is still recovering from their loss, but they had an excellent example to follow and are flourishing under their new (and continuing) leadership team, which may no doubt result in another National award someday soon.

Puerto Rico Region won the 2017 National Membership Award for Greatest Factored Growth and Membership Retention. Despite a very challenging year, the Puerto Rico Region, led by Jaime Rullan and team have not only helped maintain their club’s bond through all the hardship, but they’ve grown membership in spite of the difficult times. This recognition is the result of a great team effort of their board members who are enthusiastic and committed to the brand and PCA, making great strides in several key areas:

  1. Created a well-balanced event schedule for the year, including Driving Tours, Drivers Education, Concours D’ Elegance as well as social events (dinners, wine tastings, etc.).
  2. Planned events that included all family members, in particular, significant others.
  3. Hired a social media consultant to manage their Facebook page, growing from 400 to 6,000 in less than a year, constantly posting events and photos.
  4. Established a solid alliance with their local Porsche dealer, becoming the Porsche experience enhancer as part of their sales process.

Congratulations to North Florida Region and Puerto Rico Region for their impressive awards and to all the Zone 12 winners in the individual categories and events.

Zone 12 Charity Event at American Muscle Car Museum in Melbourne, FL; Saturday, November 10

Please mark your calendars for the chance to visit the American Muscle Car Museum (AMCM) in Melbourne, on Saturday afternoon, November 10. This is where Space Coast holds their Autocrosses, but you’ll actually get to go inside to see all the amazing cars, displays and classic automobilia. Zone 12 and Space Coast Region will host a charity event at this one-of-a-kind private collection.

AMCM is not open to the public, but they do open on special occasions to host non-profit fundraisers, car activities, and educational tours for school-age children. It’s a 123,000-square-foot complex that houses the personal collection of Mark Pieloch. Mark has been a car enthusiast for over 40 years and has amassed more than 250 cars, ranging from classic 1950s models to 1970s American muscle cars, to practically every color of Ford GT, to modern “sophisticated” muscle like a 2017 Shelby GT350R, and 14+ of the all-time most collectible Porsches.

Registration will be on ClubRegistration.net, starting in September. Attendance will be limited, and your charity donation will go toward a great cause. The Wabasso School is a special education center serving students ages 5-22. Students are provided specialized instruction, so they can not only achieve academic gains but also increase their social, emotional and behavioral skills. They work to develop communication, daily living, and occupational skills to integrate successfully into the real world.

Complete event details will be available soon, such as lodging options, caravan plans and best travel routes, dining plans and other info. Please plan to take advantage of this great opportunity to visit this wonderful private car museum with some of your PCA friends, while also helping a worthwhile cause.

Visit American Muscle Car Museum for more information.

Hope to see you at a Zone 12 event soon!

Lisa – Zone 12 Rep

Are you a new PCA member? Well, welcome to the Club!! But you might be asking, “What’s all this about a ‘Parade’?”  Porsche Parade is the “big” Porsche Club event of the year: our annual national convention. Parade has a potpourri of activities, and club members from all across North America (and elsewhere!) come together for this once-a-year extravaganza to participate in a week of competitive events, to socialize and enjoy their cars, with seminars and tours adding to the event’s variety. For many club members, Parade is their big vacation for the year. It provides them with an opportunity to see new parts of the country as well as to visit with PCA friends that they only see once a year, at Parade!

Tire Rack Street Survival school at Sebring, Sept 15

Category : News

Suncoast Region will be the local host for the national Tire Rack Street Survival (TRSS) school, during the September Sebring DE weekend (Sept 15-16, 2018). As the official TRSS website says, “The primary emphasis of the Tire Rack Street Survival® is a ‘hands-on’ driving experience in real-world situations! It’s about more than driving – it’s about LIVING!”

The school is open to fully licensed drivers only, ages 16-21. If you have a teen who is already driving, he or she can benefit from attending this great driving school.

What: Tire Rack Street Survival® school

Registration: https://www.motorsportreg.com/index.cfm/event/register.trss/uidEvent/FD1A624D-9953-56C6-0B88EC3D9D49556E

About TRSS:
The Tire Rack Street Survival® school is a safe teen driving program designed to go beyond today’s required driver education and give teens across the U.S. the driving tools and hands-on experience they need to become safer, smarter drivers. The school provides trained and qualified in-car driving instructors as well as a valuable classroom experience for each student.

This school is open to fully licensed drivers only, ages 16-21. Please note that Porsche Club of America (local host for this school) does not allow anyone under the age of 16 to participate. Drivers 16 years old and older who hold a valid learner’s permit or driver’s license that have no restrictions during the hours the school takes place are eligible to participate (i.e., if the participant is allowed to drive to and from the event without an adult required to be in the car with them).

The primary emphasis of the Tire Rack Street Survival® is a “hands-on” driving experience in real-world situations! We use your own car to teach you about its handling limits and how you can control them. The students will become more observant of the traffic situation they find themselves in. They will learn to look far enough ahead to anticipate unwise actions of other drivers. As the students master the application of physics to drive their cars, they will make fewer unwise driving actions themselves. They will understand why they should always wear their own seatbelts, and why they should insist that their passengers wear seatbelts, too.

It’s about more than driving – it’s about LIVING!

All Schools $95.

Happy 4th!! … and here’s some OktoberFast fun to look forward to

Category : News

Hopefully, you’re celebrating the 4th with family and friends, lots of food and fun. Have a safe and happy Birthday for America!

When you’re chillin’ later today, make sure you add some more dates to your fall Zone 12 calendar.

OktoberFast Registration Dates
Please plan to enjoy OktoberFast at Daytona International Speedway, October 26-28. There will be rolling registration dates, starting now. Registration for the Autocross is already open on ClubRegistration.net; the Advanced DE registration will open in mid-July, and the Club Race will open in September.

Autocross Registration is Open
Registration for the OktoberFast Autocross is now open on ClubRegistration.net. It’s your chance to literally be in the middle of all the action of the OktoberFast DE and Club Race as you compete in the AX on the fun and adventurous Kart Track, right at NASCAR Turn 3. After you enjoy each run on the paved kart track, you can just sit back and watch all the cars race by on the Daytona track, while taking it all in with family and friends. Citrus Region will be running the AX, and it will be their 7th AX in the annual series.

It’s open to all makes – so invite your family and friends to come out and compete in this unique autocross. Register now for only $40 (you’ll pay at the event). By pre-registering, you’ll not only get through registration faster at the track, but you’ll also receive a $10 discount.

Driver’s Ed – Opens July 15
Registration for the OktoberFast Advanced Solo DE will open July 15, on ClubRegistration.net. The DE is open to all makes, not just Porsche. We must limit registration to the first 65, so don’t wait to register. Drivers must be qualified as Advanced Solo, which means open passing with a point by, anywhere on the track.

Specifically, drivers must either be a PCA National Instructor, or have achieved Advanced Solo status with their home region and have a minimum of 4 events where PCA Expanded Passing was in use (passing anywhere on the track, including the turns, with a point by). Experience with “expanded passing” with other HPDE organizations (e.g., Chin, Hooked on Driving, etc.) will be acceptable. If you don’t have the requisite experience, please don’t register for this event – and if you’re not sure, please email the Advanced Solo DE Event Chair, Jim Burnett, at 111margaret@att.net, or call him at 904-910-0596.

You’ll have the opportunity to attend the racers’ “chalk talk” given by Cory Friedman of Autometrics on Thursday evening (Oct 25), as an initial exposure to driving Daytona (highly recommended, even if you’ve driven Daytona before).

Please visit ClubRegistration.net to view additional details about the DE, including cost and full requirements, such as safety equipment and minimum tire ratings. Registration will open on July 15th – just search for Zone 12 events.

Club Race – Opens September 10
Registration for the Club Race will open September 10 on ClubRegistration.net. PCA Club Racing is the largest single-marque racing series in the world. OktoberFast will host the Trophy East, Enduro and 944 Cup. To learn more about Club Racing, visit pcaclubracing.org/

Volunteers
It takes a lot of passionate people to run OktoberFast, so if you’d like to help out, have fun and learn all about what it takes to put on an event like this, please Volunteer today. Just email Raylene (Ray) Grynkewich at raygrynk2@outlook.com.

Sponsors
If you’d like to be an OktoberFast sponsor or you’d like to refer someone, please contact OktoberFast Chair Steve Williamson at steve@stevewilliamson.com.

Thanks for participating and helping out – and we look forward to seeing you at Daytona International Speedway in October!

Category : News

From the Press Room of Porsche, we’re all invited to participate in the truly global celebrations commemorating a very special day!

“The first vehicle to bear the Porsche name was registered on June 8, 1948: It was the 356 “No.1” Roadster. This is the day on which the Porsche brand was born. 70 years ago, Ferry Porsche brought us the world’s most beloved sports car. Since then, his dream of the perfect car has driven sports car passion around the world. Driving a sports car creates moments so valuable and exciting, you can’t help but want to share them with others.

In light of those moments, we are pleased to announce Sportscar Together Day: a worldwide celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Porsche sports car. This first ever global Sportscar Together Day will be held June 8-10, 2018. To celebrate in true Porsche fashion, we’re encouraging you to start sharing your experiences now. The last DE before the summer heat! Sebring, May 12-13 (Instructors Needed, Please!)

Category : News

Now that our annual 3.5 days of “spring” are over, we’re going to be feeling the heat soon (but yes, that’s what AC is for!). It’s your last chance to enjoy Sebring with your PCA buddies before it gets so hot your tires will melt straight into the track! That is not exactly what is meant by “sticky” tires.

OK, that won’t really happen, but during the summer it certainly feels like it could. So, register today for the May 12-13 DE at http://www.clubregistration.net (just search for Suncoast), and enjoy Sebring for the last time until … hmmm, September.

And we need some more Instructors. So, if you are one, please register today so we can un-wait list some very happy drivers – thanks to you!

Suncoast and Citrus Regions DE at Sebring, May 12 & 13
Register at http://www.clubregistration.net

Hope to see you at Sebring!

Enjoy the Golden Gala at Daytona 500 Club – with Vic Elford (June 9)

Category : News

This year, Zone 12 celebrates the 40th Anniversary of Sonnenschein Region, which has several drives planned in the summer and through the fall, on the beautiful backroads of the FL Panhandle, southern AL and MS (just search “Sonnenschein” on https://clubregistration.net).  And it’s the 55th Anniversary of Gold Coast, which always has something fun going on (http://www.goldcoastregion.org/calendar/).

In the middle, Space Coast is celebrating the big 5-0 all through the summer – and they’d like us all to help them celebrate in a big way on Saturday, June 9, as they mark their Golden Anniversary at a very special place.

Come Celebrate at the Daytona 500 Club
They’re having their Anniversary Banquet at the incredible Daytona 500 Club at the Daytona International Speedway, site of historic events for longer than most of us have been alive (“most” of us!). Celebrated sportscar, rallying and Formula One racer Vic Elford, who won the Daytona 24-Hour race in the famous 1968 Porsche 1-2-3 win, will be the guest of honor.

Event Details
The 500 Club lounge will open at 5 p.m. with a cash bar and some passed appetizers including: Bacon Wrapped Scallops, Beef Wellington, Vegetable Spring Rolls and Jumbo Shrimp.

Dinner starts at 6:30, and you’ll have your choice of plated dinner:

  • Grilled Chicken Breast in Herb Au Jus, with garlic & rosemary, roasted red potatoes, and vegetables
  • Braised Short Ribs in Natural Au Jus, with buttermilk mashed potatoes and braised vegetables
  • Seared Salmon with Sweet Chili Sauce, with pecan basmati rice and chef’s selection of vegetables

Dinner includes salad, rolls, sides, water, iced tea, coffee, and dessert.

Register now on https://clubregistration.net – only $75 per person. There will also be a cash bar, and you can buy drink tickets in advance for $6/ticket (good for 1 beer, house wine or cocktail of your choice).

If you’ve ever been to the 500 Club, you know it’s in the infield directly at the Start/Finish line – and as a bonus, you’ll get to enjoy watching a Tracks Unlimited 14-hour race while you’re enjoying the party. Plus – Shelby Goode’s original painting honoring Space Coast’s 50 years will be auctioned for charity. And a poster signed by Vic Elford will be one of the many door prizes you could win.

And if you’d like to make a weekend out of it and enjoy festivities on Sunday morning as well, there’s a block of rooms at a discount rate at this brand new Marriott hotel:

Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Daytona Beach Speedway/Airport
1820 Checkered Flag Boulevard, Daytona Beach, FL 32114
Phone: (386) 254-4700

PCA Members can reserve a room on Saturday night at the discounted group rate of $109 for a room or $129 for a suite by stating they are with the Space Coast Porsche Club 50th Anniversary Celebration. Reservations include breakfast and parking on the first floor of the covered parking garage. There will be reserved spaces on the first floor for parking adjacent to the reserved conference room and bar area. The conference room will be set up Saturday night for drinks after the banquet and Sunday morning for breakfast. The hotel has a free shuttle to the speedway and the airport.

On Sunday morning, there will be yet another bonus: the Daytona Kaffeeklatsch at the Fairfield Inn. Breakfast for those not staying at the hotel will be a nominal charge. And Vic Elford will be joining us, so you’ll have yet another opportunity to visit with him!

Register and pay today to confirm your place at this very special event!
