Zone 12 PCA: Drive-In Movie Night Oct 17; Also, Reminder About Sebring Ticket Exchange

Category : News

We made it to another week! We’re slowly making strides toward getting back to normal, and that includes some successful, limited-attendance driving and social events over the past several weeks. Great job by all the Region teams who have planned and led these fun events!

Now, get ready to enjoy our first “large” and safely socially distanced event. Join Everglades Region for a Porsche night out, while you stay “in” your ride at the drive-in. Come hang out with us on Saturday, October 17, for a private showing of “Ford v Ferrari” at the Collier County Fairgrounds Drive-In in Naples.

Bring your chairs, blankets, and refreshments and enjoy your socially distanced parking spot, next to 150 of your PCA friends. The cost is $40 per car, with half of that going to a local charity. PCA members only.

Register today on ClubRegistration.net:
https://clubregistration.net/events/event-details.cfm?event_id=10943

Registration closes October 12.

Last Chance to Exchange Sebring Tickets for Next Year’s Race (March 17-20, 2021)

I just wanted to send another reminder that we will not have a Porscheplatz tent (PCA hospitality) at the Sebring race in November. The track will still have the Porsche and Corvette Corrals set up in the traditional location, but “we” (PCA) will not have a presence there or need Volunteers to run the corral. But please save up your energy to again Volunteer at the March 2021 Sebring Race, when we’ll be back out there at our normal Porscheplatz spot (hopefully)!

If you already have your tickets for this year, but you can’t make it in November, remember you can exchange your tickets for the March 2021 race. Simply mail your tickets/parking pass to the ticket office by October 15, per their instructions:

“If you already purchased tickets and parking for the 2020 Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring and you are unable to attend the Nov. 11-14, 2020 event, you can return your tickets and parking passes by October 15 and receive a full credit toward tickets to the March 17-20, 2021 event.  To receive a full credit, return your tickets and parking passes to:

Sebring International Raceway
Ticket Department
113 Midway Drive
Sebring, FL 33870”

The track’s return policy applies to all tickets, not just our Porscheplatz packages. Keep checking their website for ongoing updates regarding the overall race situation:

https://www.sebringraceway.com/tickets/ticket-options/

Zone 12 PCA: Fall Update

Category : News

Hope you and yours are safe and well, and that you had a pleasant and relaxing summer. Hopefully, you’ve been able to get out in your beautiful Porsches, either alone or with a small group of friends. Seems like it was just yesterday that we were first hearing about COVID-19 in the spring, but now we’re only a few days from fall. This has been a challenging year for all of us, some more than others. As we move toward the end of this monumental year, we look forward to a better, brighter 2021.

Most of our Regions are slowly moving back to some semblance of “normal,” while still abiding by local health guidelines, social distancing, and wearing masks when/where needed. As your area conditions continue to improve, please plan to get back out there with us and enjoy all that PCA offers. We couldn’t carry on without our teams of Volunteers, so please consider contributing your ideas and efforts as we start rolling again. You can always help out, in big and small ways, just reach out to your Region leadership and let them know your availability.

Elections for 2021 Region Boards

As we move into fall, most Regions are having elections to fill roles on Boards. If you’re enthusiastic about helping us move forward, with some routine Club plans as well as some outside-of-the-box new frontiers, please consider becoming a member of your Region’s Board – as an officer or committee member. You don’t have to make a commitment for full-time leadership in order to plan and/or lead some events. Every individual effort helps us keep the Regions active and engaged.

Sebring Race Update – There Won’t be a Porscheplatz in November

At the moment, the 12 Hours of Sebring race is still scheduled for November 11th-14th, but we just found out there won’t be a Porscheplatz. There will still be a Porsche Car Corral, the dedicated Porsche-only parking, but no Porscheplatz.

If you bought a ticket and are planning to go anyway, you can park your Porsche in the traditional corral area on the outside of Turn 17, but due to social distancing restrictions there will be no PCA or Porsche hospitality for this event. You can view all the current info on PCA.org: https://www.pca.org/event/2019-12-14/porscheplatz-super-sebring

Sebring is allowing ticket holders to exchange this year’s tickets for the traditional March 2021 race if you’d like, but you have to call them before October 1 (800-626-7223) and return all tickets and parking passes to the office by Oct. 15: https://www.sebringraceway.com/tickets/ticket-options/

Thanks to all of our usual Sebring Porscheplatz Volunteers, as well as those of you who were looking forward to being there this year for the first time. Keep the hope up that we’ll be closer to “normal” by next March, when the typical Sebring dates roll around. Looking forward to seeing you all there!

And speaking of IMSA races, of course, we won’t know logistical details about January’s Rolex 24 at Daytona or the PCA Corral until much later this year. But we can assume at least the race will go on. Existing PCA Corral pass holders should have already been contacted by the track for renewals; general admission tickets are currently available online as well. Typically, the Roar Before the 24 practice and qualifying is a couple of weeks before the race, but due to potential international travel restrictions, they moved it to the weekend before the Rolex. For all the current info, please check the Daytona site:
https://www.daytonainternationalspeedway.com/Articles/2020/7-July/2021-Rolex-24-At-DAYTONA-Set-for-Jan-30-31.aspx

Upcoming Zone 12 Events

Over the summer we started getting back on track with a few drives and rallies, as well as Autocrosses and DEs. There are several great events coming up all around our Zone, through the end of the year.

Please check ClubRegistration.net for most of our events (just search by a Region’s name to find their events). In case you haven’t been back to an event lately, we now have to sign a COVID waiver. It’s really easy and available online through Club Registration. So, please be sure to enable eWaivers in your ClubReg profile and e-sign the Communicable Disease Waiver before you attend any events.

Here are some upcoming ways to get back out there and enjoy some PCA fun. Don’t forget – you can participate in other Regions’ activities too, so get back out there whenever and wherever you can.

September 12: Citrus will have an Autocross at the Orange County Convention Center (Orlando).

https://egs.pca.org/

Also, we’re fortunate to have the opportunity to attend a couple of Driver’s Ed Instructor’s Schools in the fall (along with DEs the same weekend). Zone 12 PCA Update: Social Distance Diary

Category : News

Hope all the moms out there had a great Mother’s Day! Hope everyone is healthy and comfortable, adjusting to our temporary (fingers crossed!) new normal. The social distancing rules now vary all throughout Zone 12, but at least some of us have been able to individually get out of our safe spaces recently and perhaps take a fun drive or eat in at a local restaurant. As things start to improve, some of our Regions will again be planning events, though probably with a smaller footprint as we gauge what may be allowed. All things considered, we know some of the most important things in life are even more important right now: family, health, safety, financial security, and nourishment (body, mind and soul).

Of course, we’ve had to cancel our events for the past couple of months, and it will continue into July in some cases. Unfortunately, Parade had to be canceled, but there’s hope that the Fall Treffen at The Greenbrier will be able to go on. We won’t have Zonefest this year either, but for next year Space Coast will be planning the same great event in the Melbourne area, during Memorial Day weekend.

Even when we are able to get back on track with our usual fun stuff, it will be challenging to have organized events, since it may be difficult to abide by the “25% of capacity” allowances at most establishments. But we’ll certainly do our best to get back to it as soon as possible. In some areas, it’s starting to become easier for you to go to dinner with your immediate family again, so that’s a start.

Throughout the country, so many Regions have gone above and beyond, supporting members and local organizations that are in need. And many of our own Regions have done the same. We’ll keep helping each other make it through to the other side, to whatever our new normal winds up being.

Here are a few ways members are making a difference:

https://www.pca.org/members-making-difference
https://www.pca.org/more-pca-regions-and-members-support-their-community-during-covid-19-pandemic

Some things to look forward to are two upcoming Solo Driver’s Ed events in May and June! Unfortunately, we can’t allow two people in cars on the track right now, so we can’t conduct instructor-student sessions yet (we’ll have student DEs again as soon as we can!). But if you’re a solo driver and would like to get back out on the track, please sign up for Suncoast’s Sebring DE during Memorial Day weekend and Gold Coast’s Homestead DE the first weekend in June.

Sebring Solo DE, May 23rd & 24th: https://clubregistration.net/events/event-details.cfm?event_id=10254
Homestead Solo DE, June 6th & 7th: https://clubregistration.net/events/event-details.cfm?event_id=10696

Of course, there’s this caveat – if something changes with local or national guidelines and the events can’t go on, they’ll be canceled and refunds will be given.

As a Club, we’re still figuring out the best way to stay socially distanced and safe but still be social, and continue to enjoy what we all love about PCA. Eventually, we’ll be able to get back out and have fun at all our traditional events, drives and outings. But for now, at least we can enjoy simply driving our Porsches individually, wherever we’re allowed to drive.

Keep checking your Region’s website or email updates to find out what’s being planned locally. We’ll all be able to see each other soon, somewhere along the PCA path. Until then, stay safe, healthy and sane.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve certainly learned that so many in our communities need a lot of things we sometimes take for granted. If you’d like to help, please contribute to your local charities and hospitals, as well as these national charities that help both at a local level and all across the country:

Also, if you’re a track regular, here’s one more way you can consider helping: Donating to the GoFundMe set up by Suncoast to help the Sebring corner workers. Without them, we couldn’t even be on the track. But they’ve been out of work at the track, just like we’ve been affected in our daily work lives.

Zone 12 PCA: Coronavirus (COVID-19) impacts

Category : News

Hi, Zone 12 members.

Know that the PCA National leadership team is closely monitoring the coronavirus situation, and they understand Regions and members have concerns. In all things we do, first and foremost is the health and safety of our members.

As we’ve all seen and heard, a large number of public events are being canceled in an effort to mitigate the risk of contracting and spreading the virus. And we know that some of our events will need to be canceled or postponed. You’ll receive direct communication from your Region Leadership regarding any schedule changes for your local events, and contingency plans for upcoming National events such as Treffen and Parade are being monitored as well.

One of the first large event postponements was next week’s Sebring races. It’s been rescheduled for November, and hopefully, those of us who were going next week can attend in November. Please read the official notice (and know that your Porscheplatz tickets will be honored in November):

‘Super Sebring’ and Porscheplatz Postponed

The Porscheplatz at the ‘Super Sebring’ races on March 18-21, has been postponed until November 13 &14, 2020.

‘Super Sebring’ races include the FIA WEC (World Endurance Championship) and IMSA (International Motor Sports Association) 68th Annual Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. The FIA WEC at Sebring has been canceled. The IMSA  68th Annual Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring has been postponed until November 13 & 14, 2020. Both organizations have stated that the recent US travel ban on all travel from Europe, will prevent a number of drivers, teams, and key personnel from participation.

Sebring International Raceway will honor previously purchased 2020 admission and parking tickets at the rescheduled date. Additional details to follow when available.

We have planned a great Porscheplatz experience for you in Sebring and look forward to seeing you in November.

Know that your Region leadership is staying informed about this rapidly developing phenomenon, and we will do our best to assist and inform as the situation evolves.

Zone 12 PCA: Zonefest Registration is now open!

Category : News

Zonefest 2020

Memorial Day weekend — May 22-24, 2020, in Melbourne, FL

Register now for Zonefest 2020

Zonefest is Zone 12’s annual beginning-of-summer bash, usually held Memorial Day weekend in various parts of Florida. Come join us for this year’s party on the east coast, in Melbourne.  Thanks to our host Region — Space Coast — and our primary sponsors The American Muscle Car Museum (AMCM) and Porsche Melbourne, this is going to be an incredible weekend.

Here’s what you can look forward to:

Friday night we’ll meet up with old friends and make new ones during the welcome dinner at the Porsche Melbourne dealership, just minutes from the host hotel, Hilton Melbourne.

Saturday we’ll spend time at Mark Pieloch’s American Muscle Car Museum – starting with a concours on the beautiful grounds; a tour of their Garage/Maintenance area; and a Gimmick Rally in the afternoon.  Saturday night, we’ll be treated to a tour of the incredible AMCM – 329 cars (including 44 Porsches), in immaculate condition inside the state-of-the-art facility! This collection is not open to the public, except during exclusive charity events.  Half of your registration fee goes directly to the Aging Matters in Brevard Organization – helping local senior citizens.  Please note that children under 12 are not allowed inside the museum.

Mark Pieloch has offered a special option where he’ll host a private tour through the museum, giving you the history of many of his cars, including how he acquired them and their significance. The tour is $100 (in addition to the Zonefest registration). It’ll be a rare opportunity to hear the inside scoop of this incredible collection, with 100% of the proceeds going to the Aging Matters Charity.

Sunday brings us back to the AMCM for our autocross. The site is amazing! It features a 1/8-mile dragstrip, skidpad, and road course all in one, a driver’s dream come true! If you’ve had the chance to do a Space Coast AX, you know how fun and challenging they are, with approximately 60-second run times.  Beginners are welcome to drive too!  There will be instructors available to drive with you, as well as loaner helmets. Here’s a video of the Autocross course at AMCM – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72SjirhQFUw&

If autocrossing isn’t for you, there will be a guided scenic drive for you to participate in on Sunday morning. Then on Sunday afternoon, plan to attend an ice cream social to cool off while you watch a Porsche Tractor display and demonstration. Not your typical ice cream “Sundae,” for sure!

Finally, Zonefest will close with a delicious banquet and awards ceremony at the Eau Gallie Yacht Club on Sunday evening, with your choice of prime rib or chicken chardonnay, and a chocolate delight for dessert.

See below for the weekend’s entire schedule.

Accommodations:

We have a block of rooms at the Melbourne Rialto Hilton available with special club pricing of $134/night. Contact the hotel directly at 321-768-0200 (use “Zonefest” for the group rate), or use the link below (good until 4/22/20).   Rooms are not included as part of this registration. Each registrant is responsible for making their own plans for accommodation.

Use this link to access the exclusive rates available for the Zonefest group:  Hilton Zonefest 2020 Reservations

Registration:

You’ll get a welcome package, including a Zonefest polo shirt and other items to commemorate the event. All events, the dinners and the ice cream social are included for the price of $150 per person for adults.  Children 12 and under are an additional $50 each. Attendance is limited to the first 150 participants.

Please register early so you don’t miss out! Registration CLOSES May 8th.

Zone 12 PCA: Big Events Coming Up!

Category : News

Holy smoke, it’s almost March! If you’re like me, you’re asking how the heck did that happen?  Wasn’t new year’s eve just … yesterday? Based on the hoopla, 2020 is supposed to be as big as “2000, the start of the new millennium” – so if you didn’t quite realize the year’s almost a quarter over, it’s time to get started on those big plans of yours. And in the meantime, please come out and hang with your Porsche friends at these upcoming events in our little – and very exciting – part of the PCA world …

But before I get to that – as always, we had a great time and wonderful Volunteers for our first two big events of 2020: THANKS AGAIN TO ALL WHO HELPED US AT ROLEX 24 AND SEBRING 48!

March 6 (Fri): Werks Reunion Amelia Island

Next week is the 4th annual Werks Reunion at Amelia Island! It’s still the Friday preceding the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, but it’s at a new location this year – Amelia River Golf Club. As always, there will be 500+ beautiful Porches displayed in the Corral and Concours. It’s free to attend (except a parking fee), so try to be there if you can.

This is a casual gathering of Porsche enthusiasts focused on having fun rather than solely competition, so come on out and enjoy a great day of cars and camaraderie.

Schedule and details: http://werksreunion.com/amelia.cfm

March 19-21 (Thurs-Sat): SuperSebring – 1,000 Miles of Sebring on Friday / 12 Hours of Sebring on Saturday

Two weeks after Werks will be the SuperSebring Double Header WEC and IMSA races! The Porscheplatz car corral is sold out, but you can still come join us in the tent for good ol’ PCA hospitality. And once again, Porscheplatz ticket holders are eligible to take Porsche-only parade laps on Saturday morning.

Thanks to all of you who have already volunteered to help, but we still need more Volunteers.

Please email me if you know you’ll be at Sebring and can help! I’ll be finalizing the schedule soon, and we have a new need for a few Volunteers on Thursday afternoon as well. So, if you’ll be staying at the track and can help for a few hours on Thursday – or any day, please email me now.

This year, there will be two major races – on Friday and Saturday – and a 2-hour race on Thursday afternoon. Lots more fun … but that also means we’ll need extra help on Thursday and Friday.

May 22-24 (Memorial Day weekend): This year Zonefest will be on the east coast, in the Melbourne area!

Registration will be opening soon on ClubRegistration.net. Be on the lookout for an email blast when it’s time to register!

And finally, for anyone who missed Parade last year, I hope distance wasn’t an excuse, since the drive will be so much farther this year. But this year’s will be worth the trip, because there will be much better roads to drive! Even though it’s on the other side of the country, if you can make it out there in June, plan to go to Parade in Palm Springs. Phase 2 registration will be opening soon, on Tuesday March 31, where you’ll select the events and banquets.

Learn all about Parade and register here.

Remember, it’s not just the cars, it’s the people … so get out there to meet other Porsche enthusiasts and have fun at some (or all) of these and your Region’s great events!

Hope to see you around soon!

Zone 12 News … Happy New Year!

Category : News

Hope you had a great ending to 2019 and are welcoming a new and fantastic year!

In Zone 12, we ended the year with a lot of joyous festivities and good works in our communities. Thanks to all the Presidents and leaders in our 10 Regions and to all who volunteered throughout the year to make our hundreds of events fun, enjoyable and safe.

Here are some of the “big” upcoming events. But check your Region’s website calendar for all your events, plus the Zone 12 calendar has most events listed as well: https://zone12.pca.org/calendar/

And if you’re new to PCA – WELCOME! We have a great time at all our events throughout the year, whether driving and touring, education sessions, or social events. But if you’re new to all this, it can sometimes be overwhelming. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or speak up at meetings and events, to become more involved in your local Region. As Zone 12 Representative, I help your Region leadership whenever insight, guidance or counseling is needed, and I attend as many of the Regions’ events as I can. As you get involved in your local Region, seasoned members will be there to help you get acclimated and feel at home in the PCA world!

Now, here’s our usual fast start into the new year:

January 3-5: The Roar Before the 24 is this weekend. It’s the final dress rehearsal before the Rolex 24 At DAYTONA, and it’s free with your admission to the Rolex (Rolex ticket holders received an email this week for entry to the Roar). It’s a great chance to get up close to all the teams and drivers while they’re working out the final kinks in their cars and strategies.

January 23-26: We still need a few Volunteers for The Rolex 24 at Daytona (especially Saturday afternoon). We’ll need help parking cars and welcoming PCA members all day, every day at the PCA Car Corral (Friday through Sunday). If you already have tickets and are going to the Rolex anyway – and would like to give back a few hours of time to help us – please email me now (caymancrazy2012@yahoo.com), and I’ll add you to the schedule.

It’s an expensive privilege to have the prime real estate that we have at the races, but we can’t manage all the parking and hospitality without your help! And if you have friends coming in from other parts of the country, please ask them to help as well. No matter where I travel to attend IMSA races, I always volunteer to help at the PCA Corral or Porscheplatz – it’s a lot of fun, a great way to meet other PCA members and a great way to help out for a few hours.

If you know you’ll be there for the Rolex at Daytona or Sebring races and can help out, please let me know now!

January 30 – February 2: The week after Rolex will be the start of the PCA Club Racing season! 48 Hours at Sebring Club Race / Driver’s Ed / Autocross.

They still need Volunteers to help all weekend. It’s a lot of fun to be there and see all the amazing Porsches, so please volunteer today if you know you can go: http://48hoursatsebring.com/volunteersignin.php

See full details: http://www.48hoursatsebring.com/

February 22: Teen Street Survival School at Sebring will be held on Saturday during the Suncoast Region DE at Sebring. There are still a few spots available! If you have a teen driver or have friends who do, sign them up. This school is for fully licensed drivers 16 and up and will help them learn skills to stay safe on the road. Learn more and register at www.streetsurvival.org and view the flyer for details. Questions: Contact Suncoast’s John Sabatini at 813.493.6359

March 6: PCA’s Werks Reunion will once again be held during the Amelia Island Concours weekend. Werks will be on Friday, as usual, but at a new location: Amelia River Golf Club (4477 Buccaneer Trail, Fernandina Beach, FL) : https://www.ameliarivergolf.com/.

Guests are welcome to attend free of charge (parking fees apply). Porsche owners interested in displaying their vehicles must register (and pay) in one of two categories:

  • Porsche Corral – Display your cherished Porsche proudly alongside others in its model type. Corral participants are not considered in judged competition.
  • Porsche Judged Field – Compete against other owners to take home one of more than 20 great awards

See full details: http://www.werksreunion.com/amelia.cfm

March 18-21: SuperSebring 2020 Porscheplatz tickets are still available!

For the annual races at Sebring, if you want to park your Porsche (only Porsches allowed!) in the Porscheplatz car corral, you can still buy tickets (package includes parking and 1 or 2 admission tickets): Porscheplatz car corral/admission tickets

We’ll need a ton of Volunteers to help us run the Porscheplatz at Sebring. If you know you’ll be there, please let me know you can volunteer to have fun with us there too. I’ll start scheduling for Sebring shortly after the Rolex weekend, so please email me if you’ll be available to help at Sebring (caymancrazy2012@yahoo.com).

In Zone 12, we’re lucky to have the best winter weather in the country and the most events to enjoy! Have fun with your Region and try to get to events in other Regions as well, if it works with your schedule. And thanks for participating and helping at any events that fit into your busy life.

I’ll be all over the Zone in the first quarter, and I hope to see you at an event soon!
